Dr. Robert J. Bird DDS

Dr. Robert Bird received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Columbia University School of Dental and Oral Surgery in 1981.  He served for three years as a commissioned officer in the National Health Service Corps treating the underserved in New York City before going into private practice in 1984.  Dr. Bird opened his office in Canaan, CT in 1986.  He is a member of the American Dental Association and the Connecticut State Dental Association.  Dr. Bird attends numerous continuing education seminars each year.  You will often see Dr. Bird running, cycling or cross country skiing on the streets and fields of Northwest Connecticut.  Other interests include jazz, female country singers, mystery novels, and yoga.    He is a fierce fan of the Fighting Irish (ND ’73).

Dr. Stephen Colite DDS

Stephen Colite graduated from the University of Connecticut and received his DMD from the University of Pennsylvania in 2006. Dr. Colite continued his education as a resident at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center, completing his training in 2007. He is a member of the American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, Connecticut State Dental Association and the Dental Society of Greater Southington.

We recognize that when it comes to cleaning teeth, each dental hygienist has a slightly different style and that patients have different preferences.  For your convenience, you can choose from our staff of four Registered Dental Hygienists and one Dentist: Anne; Kelly; Joanne; Jennifer; and Dr. Kathleen Roche.  They welcome the opportunity promote your oral health and prevent future problems.

Most often, our receptionist and scheduler, Karen, will be your first contact with the office.  She is the friendly professional who will help to answer your questions, schedule your appointments and guide you through the necessary paperwork.  We encourage you share with her anything that could make your visit easier.

Andrea, our Office Manager, is in charge of your account and insurance.  Andrea has been with the practice since its inception in 1986.  She has functioned as a dental assistant, receptionist and scheduler along with managing accounts, payment plans and insurance.  In recent years, Andrea has specialized in insurance management and has become our resident expert in the field.  She is ready to escort you through the insurance maze.  Please ask for her if you have any questions about your insurance or payment plan options.      

Three Dental Assistants will make your visit as efficient and easy as possible.  Jennifer, who is also certified to take dental x-rays, Mary Ann and Leslie are educated to assist the doctors in all procedures and are alert to your needs during any treatment.
